Biography

William Ray Bennett was born 24 May 1913 in Arkansas and most likely in Magnolia, Columbia County. He was a son of George H. Bennett and Nettie A. Alton Bennett. ^{[1] [2]}

Research Note: There was another Ray Bennett born about 1913-1914 in Columbia County, Arkansas maybe in Boone Township. This second Ray Bennett was the son of Oscar and Mary Bennett.

On 18 March 1933 Ray married Mayrene Stocks in Lafayette County, Arkansas.^[3]

As of the 1940 census Ray and Mayrene were living in Magnolia and had a daughter. ^[4]

Research Note: Ray enlisted and served in the US Military during WW II. Unknown if the military service was a factor, but Ray and Mayrene were apparently divorced after April 1940 and before April 1947. No search made for divorce record.

On 12 April 1947 Ray married Ezell Crumpler in Columbia County, Arkansas.^[5]

Research Note: When and Why was not learned, but Ray and Ezell moved to Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee, and apparently lived the remainder of their lives there. The identify of their children were not learned, but the inscription on Mayrene's grave marker suggest that they did have one or more children.

Ray died on 15 December 1998 and was buried in the Crestview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee.^[6]
