Ruggles was the youngest child of Benjamin & Apphia (Ruggles) Kent
He married first Bathsheba Bagg, daughter of James & Bathsheba (Dewey) Bagg, on 22 Apr 1767 at Suffield, Hartford, CT - parents of Bathsheba, Apphia & Ruggles II
After the death of wife Bathsheba, he married Margaret Merrick, daughter of Benjamin & Mercy (Hoar) Merrick, on 30 Jul 1772 at West Springfield, Hampden, MA - their children were James, Jonathan, Huldah, Horatio & Sally
