Youngest surviving son of Robert Henderson, a Burgess of Edinburgh. James Henderson of Fordel, was the Lord Advocate.
He was also Lord Justice-Clerk. When he became Lord Justice-Clerk, he redeemed the estates of Fordel, in Fife, and acquired lands at Balbeithy in 1504, at Stratoun in 1506 and 1509, and in Carrick in 1508.
He married Helen Baty. They had five known children.
