Edward was born about 1919. He is the son of Ashton Jessup and Blanche Johnson.
As told to Dann Todd by Kenneth Todd: Shine served as a pilot in WWII aboard bombers in the European theater. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross three times and flew 30 missions. His B-24 was named Mis-B-Havin.
After the service, he eventually found his way into hardware sales which led him to be employed by the W.R. Case Company.
Shine's innovation was for W.R. Case to manufacture commemorative folding knives for universities and other organizations. That development was new to the industry and launched W.R. Case to prominence. Commemorative knives remain a primary focus of the W.R. Case Company.
Shine was honored on the floor of the US Congress by then US Representative John S. Tanner of Tennessee.
