Oskar von Hase was born on 15 Sep 1846 in Jena, Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, Thüringen, Germany, son of Baron Karl August von Hase (1800 - 1890) and Pauline Härtel (~1809 - 1885). His brother was Karl Alfred von Hase (1842 - 1914).

He married on September 10, 1873 in Leipzig with Johanna Marie Louise Zarncke (born January 24, 1856 in Leipzig, † July 31, 1911 ibid.), She was the daughter of the literature professor Friedrich Karl Theodor Zarncke and his wife (married on 9 April 1855) Anna Pauline Geitner(born November 16, 1834 in Leipzig, † September 17, 1864 ibid.),
