Biography

The Clinton County Times, Lock Haven, PA, Fri., June 24, 1927. (PHOTO) The five generations shown in the above picture consist of Mrs. Priscilla Heller, Mrs. W. Grant Berry, Mrs. H. W. Matter, Mrs. Frank Peter, and the twins, Florence and William Peter, all of whom reside in this city and vicinity. Mrs. Heller, who is not 85 years of age, is of Scotch-Irish descent. She is the youngest of twelve children born to Burnette and Sarah Williams, who settled in Clinton county in 1800. After a very healthy and active life, Mrs. Heller has only recently begun to show her age. She resides in Lock Haven with her daughter-in-law and grandchildren, Mrs. Fannie Heller and family. Mrs. Heller’s eldest daughter, Mrs. Berry also lives in Lock Haven and is the mother of eleven children, seven of whom are living. She was born and reared in Loganton, removing to this city a few years ago. Mrs. Berry has made such remarkable strides in the art of home canning that many people come from great distances to purchase her products. Mrs. Berry is also active in lodge circles, being a member of several organizations. Mrs. Matter, eldest daughter of Mrs. Berry, was born and reared in Loganton, but is not a resident of Laurel Run. She, like her mother, is active in lodge work, being particularly interested in the Grange. She has the enviable record of not having missed Sunday school session unless prevented by illness or death. Poultry raising, especially turkeys and geese, constitutes her main interest. Mrs. Peter was born in Mill Hall but has spent the greater part of her life at Laurel Run, where she now resides. She is a graduate of Lock haven High School, class of 1925, and also attended the Lock Haven Normal School. She taught a successful term in the Plunkett’s Run school before her marriage. Most of her time is occupied now in caring for her twins, Florence and William, who are three months old. Mrs. Peter is also an active member of the grange. These four ladies are interested in church work and social activities and are always among those to take the initiative in any program which will better their respective communities. All are suffragettes, including William. They attribute their splendid health, and Mrs. Heller her long life, to regular hours and temperate living.
