Biography

Charles was born in 1939. He was the son of Russell Rose and Mae Heming. He passed away in 2015.

Charles Samuel Rose, 75, of Fairfield, died on Wednesday March 25, 2015. He was born May 5, 1939 in Bedford Township, Bedford County, Pa., a son of the late Russell R. Rose and A. Mae (Heming) Rose. He is survived by his wife Joyce A. (Weston) Rose who he married Aug. 25, 1962; three children, Samuel R. and wife Aurita (Reed) Rose and Elizabeth R. and husband Gideon M. Swankler of Waynesboro, and Susan R. and husband Chief Richard L. Hileman II of Carroll Valley; as well as six grandchildren, Cory Flasher, Emma Rose, Matthew, Michael, Mara Beth, and Mason Swankler and additionally by three sisters, M. Joanne Foreman, wife of G. William Foreman, Dorothy L. Duncan, wife of David L. Duncan and Phyllis A. Colvin, wife of Thomas W. Colvin, all of Bedford, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Ronald, and Roger Rose. Sam was a 1957 graduate of Bedford Area High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1960 as a Communications Center Specialist including service in Greenland. He graduated from Penn Technical Institute in Pittsburgh in 1964 and joined American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T) where he worked for 35 years as a Communications Specialist, most of it at the Alternate Joint Communications Center at Raven Rock. He was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield. He was a Life Member of the Fairfield Fire Company and served as Treasurer for many years, a Life Member of the Blue Ridge Sportsman Association and a member of the Charles J. Gilliand Amvets Post #172 in Fairfield. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield with Fr. Michael Messaro, celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
