William was born in 1848.
He served eight months during the Civil War. He enlisted in the Army February 25, 1864. He mustered in as a Private in Company I, 50th Illinois Infantry. He mustered out October 22, 1864 discharged on disability. In 1890, he was suffering with a lung disease (tuberculosis). [1] [2]
In 1886, he married Matilda (Olmsted) Beebe and they had two daughters
It is likely that he had been married before as he was 38 when they married and she had four children by her first husband, Alberto Beebe.
The children are carried forward in the Olmsted genealogy.
William died in 1916 and is buried with his wife in the Sunset Cemetery, Quincy, Adams County, Illinois.[3]
