Biography

Anne was born in 1894 in the rural community of Knappa, County Mayo, near Westport, Ireland. She was the daughter of William Blean and Rebecca Moore.

In 1920 she was living in Hartford, Connecticut, working as a servant to the Albert S Cook family, doing general housework. Evidently she had arrived in America about 1913-1914 according to census information. The 1920 census gives her birth place as Ireland and the 1930 census says she was born in the Irish Free State.

On February 7, 1920, Anne married William Brown. It doesn't seem that the couple had any children. In 1930 William's occupation was church sexton whereas Anne had none.

In 1940 the couple had been joined by relatives. William, b. Scotland, was an insulating contractor, William Blean, Annie's brother was a helper - plumbing constr., and Fred Langford, cousin, was a truck drive - insulating constr.

The Browns continued to live in Hartford where William developed his insulating business. William died in 1969 and Anne in 1984. Anne's Connecticut death information says "dressmaker, self-employed," although that information does not show up on various censuses or directories.
