Biography

Laperl "Pearl" Boudreaux, daughter of Treville Boudreaux and Elise Schexnayder, was born on 31 March 1900 in Leonville, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[1][2] During the 1900 census, she was enumerated as an infant with her parents and brother, living in her step-grandfather's and grandmother's home in Arnaudville, St. Landry Parish. ^[3] By 1910, her parents had their own household in St. Landry Parish, where she lived at least through 1920.^[4][5] Pearl attended school only through the third grade.^[6]

She married Jean Baptiste "John" Rivette, recent widow of Emily Santa Cruz and son of Jean Baptiste Rivette and Marie Emma Lanclos, in New Orleans. They obtained a marriage license on 26 September 1929,^[7] and were married three days later.^[8][9][1] They had no known children together, but Pearl helped John raise his three young sons.

Pearl and John were enumerated during the 1930 census, living at 6071 Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans. They owned their home, which was valued at $5,000. John supported the family doing odd jobs as a gardener.^[10] By 1935, they were living at 6077 Tchoupitoulas Street.^[6] They lived there for many years.^[11] John worked as a landscape gardener.^[12][13]

Pearl was widowed in 1977.^[14][15] She died at age 81 in January 1982,^[16][2] and was buried at All Saints Mausoleum at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans.^[17]
