Catherine was born about 1763. Peg Schreiber lists her as a daughter of Harry DeVore and Patience Van Duken. She married Isaac Rial (Riall, Rale, Ryal) in 1790. The couple lived early in their married life in Morris County, New Jersey, and moved west about 1820 through Pennsylvania to Ohio.
She is confused often with Catherine DeVore born 1768 in Yohogania, Colony of Virginia, married Thomas Amos, and died 1853 in Indiana. In the 1850 Federal Census she lists her birthplace as Virginia. One researcher concludes: "1763 – Jacobus’ daughter, Catherine, born in Virginia, per her 1850 census record. This is likely western Pennsylvania, which had a border dispute with Virginia, as Jacobus/James later shows up in Allegheny, PA, near today’s Pittsburgh. If this is true, he’s out in western PA earlier than I thought, or this is the wrong Catherine and his daughter is Catherine m. Rial. But Jacobus isn’t in Somerset or Morris, so likely not the Rial one." [1]
This Catherine may have been born in Morris, Sussex, or Hunterdon Counties, New Jersey. For a brief history of the DeVoor family in New Jersey, visit "Descendants of the DeVoor/ DeVaux Family of County Artois, Spanish Netherlands." [2]
Alt death dates: 19 Aug 1837 or 15 April 1839. Lawrence, Ohio.
