Biography

John was born in August 1849 in Tennessee. He is the son of James P Cope and Jemima Bowman. He passed away in March 1912 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville, Davidson County.^[1]

In 1880 John is living in Lawrence County, Tennessee with his second wife, Anna Womack. In their household are John's children from his first marriage: Mary, Martha and Franklin Cope.^[2]

By 1900 John and Anna have moved to Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. He is a department overseer for a cotton mill. In the household are Franklin Cope, son of first wife Ascenith, and Nancy J Cope, daughter of John and Anna.^[3]

In 1910 John and Anna are still living in Nashville. John is a carpenter. In his household are son Franklin Cope, age 34 and unmarried, a merchant for railroad shops; Jossie E Lyle, age 8, boarder; William J Mcdonald, age 34, boarder; and Sarilda Womack, age 83, Anna's widowed mother.^[4]
