Biography

Ellen was born in 1881 "near" Oland, Sweden. Most Swedish records list Bredsätra as her home town/parish. From Swedish records, it appears she left home in late 1900--though it does not specify where. Her obituary says she came to the US in 1902, so it's possible like many other immigrants in my family she moved to a bigger city briefly before making the trek to America.

Ellen left home to work at Kärr in November of 1900. She left Kärr and Räppinge parish, in March of 1902.^[1]

She had one sister in America as far as I can tell as Augusta immigrated in the 1890s. In 1909 she married her brother-in-law's brother, Jonas Fredrick, known as Fred.

Ellen and Fred lived on a farm and had two daughters. Ellen died at home in 1939 of myocarditis at the age of 57. According to her obituary she had a brother (Ernest) and sister (Amanda) who remained in Sweden (also mentioned her sister Augusta of Ottumwa). She is buried in Ottumwa Cemetery next to her husband.
