Biography

John was born in 1871 in Ballyhannon in Quin, County Clare, Ireland, the son of Michael Doloughty and Anne Baker. He grew up in Ballyhannan and in 1905, he emigrated to America, settling to work in New Haven, Connecticut. He adopted the surname Delehanty and became a US citizen under that name in 1920. In 1912 at age 41, he married Bridget 'Delia' Griffin in New Haven. They settled there first on Poplar Street, later moving in the early 1920s to Chatham Street. They had three children together, the first of whom died young. John worked for the local street car company. John died in 1942 in New Haven at age 71.
