Biography

Margaret Charles was daughter of Peter Charles and Maria Cheris of Antwerp in what is now Belgium. She married L'Estrange Mordaunt, son of Henry Mordaunt and his wife, Ann Poley and was mother of his heir, Robert. ^[1]

Margaret Charles, as an alien in England, was naturalized on 22 May 1604. "Margarett Mordant, born in Antwerpen, wife of L'estrange Mordant of Little Massingham in the county of Norff, Esq, daughter of Peter Charles and Mary his wife, strangers borne." 1o Jac. She lived at Massingham Parva, the home of the the Mordaunt family. "Sir Le Strange Mordant of Massingham Parva, created baronet, in June 29, 1611, died at Congham and buried at Massingham, 1627. Margaret, daughter of Peter de Charles of Antwerp, died in 1606, buried at Massingham. Child: Sir Robert Mordant, of Massingham Parva, baronet, buried at Hempstead in Essex, in 1638."
