Sylvester Gordon was born on 3rd January 1785 at Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was the second son of Charles Gordon and Catherine Mercer. [1]
Sylvester travelled to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) where he is believed to have been killed, aged eighteen years, in 1803. His name appears in a list of British soldiers, sailors and marines killed in an expedition to Egypt. The article describes how subscriptions were raised for the families of the deceased by the government in Ceylon in gratitude for their service. [2]
