Cong was born in 1946. He was the son of Clifford Lyles and Agnes Stokes. He passed away in 2008.
Born in Cam Ranh Nha Trang, Vietnam, he was a son of the late Phan Van Loi and the late Nguyen Thi Doan. Mr. Lyles was a lieutenant in the South Vietnamese army, serving with U.S. forces in the Vietnam War. After the fall of the South Vietnamese government, he escaped to the United States, came to Sumter and was adopted by the family of Agnes Lyles and the late Clifford Lyles. He received an associate degree in engineering from Central Carolina Technical College and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Sumter; his adopted mother of Sumter; a daughter, Diane Lyles, and a son, Christopher Lyles, both of Sumter; and nine adopted siblings, Sybil Gaskin, Harold Lyles, Kenneth Lyles, Dan Lyles, Doris Fernander, Carol Bradham, Jerry Lyles, Bill Lyles and Jean Redman.
