Biography

Joseph Allen was born in about 1701, possibly in Suffield, then in Hampshire County, Province of Massachusetts Bay (after 1752, in Hartford County, Connecticut Colony). He was the son of Benjamin Allen and Mercy Towsley,[1] who had been married in Suffield on 4 Oct 1699.[2]

On 4 Apr 1727, Joseph married Hannah Clesson, daughter of Joseph Clesson.[3]

Joseph Allen died on 17 Jul 1785, at a location possibly called "Fall Town," [Falls Fight Township, or Bernardston, before 1762, Colrain?][4] to which he had moved from Deerfield in about 1757.[5]

Northfield, Hampshire County:

The town of Northfield was not officially incorporated until 1723, although English settlers first arrived there in 1673. Prior to its incorporation, it was known as Skakeat or Squakheag, the native names for the village.[6]
Franklin County was created out of Hampshire County on 24 Jun 1811.[7]
