Marvin graduated from El Reno High School in 1937 and studied engineering at Arkansas Polytechnic College in Russellville, Arkansas until he enlisted in the Navy in August,1939. He became an aircraft machinist and was at Pearl Harbor in 1941. Marvin even served on U.S.S. Oklahoma before it was sunk during the Japanese attack. On March 8, 1942, as part of the VP-41 Patrol Squadron, he and several other crew members in a PBY-5A Catalina flying boat aircraft died in a takeoff accident from the Tongue Point naval air station near Astoria, Oregon into the Columbia River.
His service photo (above) is on display in the lobby of the American Legion post in El Reno. There is a Cenotaph in the El Reno Cemetery, Canadian County, Oklahoma, USA PLOT in 1st Addition, Block 19, Lot 68, Space H.
