Charles Gough married Anna Reveley [aka Hannah Reveley] in 1873 in New Zealand.[1]
Charles and Hannah had four children:
Charles drowned during the grounding and subsequent break up & sinking of the SS Tararua on 29 Apr 1881.[2]
He is buried at Greendale Public Cemetery in Greendale, Malvern County, Canterbury: "Charles GOUGH, lost in the surf from the wreck of the Tararua 29 Apr 1881 a 36. And his wife, Hannah, d 26 Oct 1930 a 78."[3]
Charles Gough of Greendale, a farmer, signed his last Will and Testament on 23 Apr 1881. In it he appointed James Gough of Greendale, farmer, as Trustee. He provided for his wife Hannah Gough, and stated that as necessary she could appoint new Trustees. He stated that a thousand pounds be given to each of his children upon reaching age twenty-one, and that any remaining income be divided in equal shares between his wife and children once they had all reached age twenty-one. He appointed his wife and the Trustee James Gough as guardians of his infant children. James Gough's affidavit in support of motion for probate stated that Charles Gough drowned in the Steam Ship Tararua on 29 Apr 1881, and that his body washed ashore and was identified. The Will was proved and probate was granted to James Gough on 8 Jun 1881.[4]
