" NICHOLVILLE —Winthrop "Winno" H. Riggs, 56, of Nicholville, died on Tuesday (Feb. 17, 1987) at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Surviving are his wife, Janet; a son, Kevin of Lake Placid; a daughter, Mrs. Candace Dafoe of Colton; five brothers, Preston "Sonny" Jr., of Winthrop, Dale of Winthrop, Ralston, Paul of Groton, CT, and Stanley of Peru; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Charmaine) Clougher of Plain View, N.Y., Mrs. John (Marlene) Hoffman of Loudonville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Randy, who died in August, 1979. He was born on Aug. 13, 1930, in Brasher Falls, son of Preston and Maxine Locke Riggs Sr. He married Janet C. LaPierre on Oct. 28, 1954 in North Lawrence. Mr. Riggs served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. During that time he was a boiler tender first class on the destroyer, USS Leary. He attended Brasher and Stockholm H. S., earning his high school equivalency diploma while in the Navy. During his earlier years he worked in Alcoa as a security guard. He also worked at the Homestead Diaries in Massena as a driver and delivery man. For the last 19 years he worked at the Central Foundry Plant in Massena, where he worked in the furnace room as a hot metal driver. He was a member of Brasher Lodge 541 F. & A. M and Moose Lodge of Massena. He was a member of Scottish Right, American Legion 514 of Winthrop and North Lawrence VFW. He was a charter member of Korean War Veteran Association and a past member of North Lawrence Fire Department. Burial was made in St. Lawrence Cemetery in North Lawrence.
