Biography

Elizabeth Wier was born August 2, 1844 in Knox County, Ohio.[1][7] Her parents were John Weir and Mary Ann (May) McClelland, both born in Ireland.[1][7]

During the United States' Civil War, her future husband, John Montis served in the 4th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry (or 4th OVI)[8]

Elizabeth Weir married John Montis on October 7, 1866 in Knox County, Ohio.[2] Their officiant was P. Hamilton, Minister of the Gospel.[2]

The couple raised their children in Knox County, Ohio. In 1880, they lived in the town of Munro.[3]

The couple's 3 children[3][4][5] were:

  • Ollie Jane Montis (1869-1936)[3]
  • Edwin (Edward) J. Montis (1870-1958)[3]
  • Charles W. Montis (1874-bef.1900)[3]

By 1900, the couple's children had left home, and John and Elizabeth were living in Fulton township, Perrinton village, Michigan with Elizabeth's sister, Isabell.[4] There John worked as a farmer, while Elizabeth worked at home.[4]. Ten years later, in Saint Johns City, Michigan, John was working as a gardener.[5]

John Montis passed away on August 21, 1915 in Mifflin, Pike, Ohio,[6] initially in an unmarked grave in Mount Vernon, Ohio.[8] In 1932 a headstone was requested and it was erected in 1933.[8]

John's wife, Elizabeth, died on December 06, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio.[7]

  • In 1900, 2 of Elizabeth's 3 children were living. Her sister, Isabell C. Wier was single, with no indication of having had children.[4]
  • In 1910, 2 of Elizabeth's 3 children were still living.[5]
