According to census records:
- In 1841 he was living at Woodlands Castle, Oystermouth, Swansea together with his wife and son Arthur.
- In 1851 he was serving as Deputy Lieutenant and Justice of Peace while living in Swansea.
- In 1871 he was living with his son Arthur's family at 31 Pantygoitre, Llanvair Kilgeddin, Monmouthshire, Wales.
It would appear from these records that he had only one child as no others are listed.
He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge and served as Justice of the Peace for Glamorgan and Carmarthen and was Deputy Lieutenant of Glamorgan.
