John was born about 1561 according to the Visitation of Essex 1612. He was the son of Sir Henry Capell and Lady Katherine Manners. He married Hellen or Ellen Leventhorpe, widow of John Longmar.
Ellen is stated to be wife of John Capell and daughter of Thomas Leventhorpe in the Will of her brother-in-law Richard Franke [1](and one of the executors of Thomas Leventhorpe's Will probated 1589 [2]), whose Will was probated in 1627.
