Biography

Birth

Sylvester Norton Jr, was born at Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), on 12 Jun 1804, the son of Zebulon Norton and Hannah (Gibbs) Norton.^[1]

He is called Syvester Norton Jr. in his birth record; his grandfather was the senior man of that name living then at Livermore. His gravestone spells his name Silvester.

Marriage

[Sylvester Norton married Betsey Safford.^[2] On 15 Mar 1835, Sylvester Norton and Betsey Safford, both of Livermore, Maine, published at Livermore their intention to marry.^[3] Their first child was born at Jay, Maine, on 27 Dec 1835.^[4]

Biographical Details

The following quotation is from his FindAGrave memorial:

Sylvester Norton was the oldest son of Zebulon and his first wife, Hannah Gibbs. He married Betsey Safford the dau. of Daniel and Betsey Warren Safford, b. Jan. 21, 1810. They made their home at Gibbs Mills on the place later known as the Lewis Riggs place, where he died Dec. 21, 1857. They are both buried at the Gibbs Yard. Sylvester was a selectman during 1845-1851. Death

Silvester Norton died on 21 Aug 1857, and he is buried at the Gibbs Mill Cemetery in Livermore, Maine.^[6]
