Biography

John Dood Coombs was born to Owen Henry Coombs and his wife Emma Snyder Dodds in 1907 in Middlemiss, Ontario. He died in the Belmont Nursing Home in Toronto, Ontario.

Marriage Notes for JOHN COOMBS and LOIS RICHARDSON: WEDDING - COOMBS - RICHARDSON A pretty January wedding took place on Saturday afternoon, January 23, 1943, in Tweed United Church, when Lois Mary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Richardson, became the bride of Pilot Officer John Dodds Coombs of St. Thomas, son of Mr. Owen Coombs and the late Mrs. Coombs of Melbourne, Ontario. Rev. H. L. Morrison officiated, and Mrs. J. G. Frost presided at the organ. The bride wore a simple designed gown of delph blue crepe. The neckline was outlined with sequins and moulded bodice accented the billowy skirt with its back fullness. Her Tudor headdress was of blue tulle, and she wore a corsage of Johanna Hill roses. The couple were unattended. Mr Carman Atton was usher. After the reception at the home of the bride's parents for relatives and immediate friends, Mr. and Mrs. Coombs left on a short wedding trip. They will reside in St. Thomas where the groom is stationed. Mrs. Coombs recently resigned from the staff of Tweed Consolidated School where she has been teaching for over fifteen years. Many of her pupils attended the wedding in a body. She has also been organist at Tweed United Church for several years, and was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. -clipping probably from The Tweed News, January 1943
