Obituary: Viola Emogene (Emmy) Broaddus Rollins, 87, passed away in Austin, Texas on January 16, 2011 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Born on November 4, 1923 in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Joe and Daisy Broaddus, she attended Lamar High School in Houston and graduated from The University of Texas in 1944.

On October 20, 1946 Emmy married the love of her life, Henry Moak Rollins. As an only child, Emmy took great delight in becoming part of the very large Rollins family. Emmy and Moak had three handsome boys and lived in Houston, Midland and Austin.

Emmy was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, was a contributor to the Texas Presbyterian Foundation, was an active member of the Woman's Club of Austin and the Assistance League of Austin. She was a true believer in education and, together with Moak, helped set up scholarship funds at Schreiner University in Kerrville.

Emmy was a graceful and elegant woman who had a real love for life. She loved sewing, cooking for the family with her many delicious recipes, going to the theatre, playing bridge, spending evenings at the symphony, and traveling. Emmy and Moak's travels took them all over the world to places like Europe, Asia, Africa, Mexico, Central and South America, Australia and New Zealand. Favorite destinations also included Santa Fe, NM and Grand Teton National Park. Emmy also loved to spoil her grandchildren -- red licorice, chocolate chip cookies and homemade fudge. She looked forward to taking her grandchildren to the circus every summer, and she loved taking them along with her on many of her travel adventures. Most of all, Emmy will be remembered for her love and devotion to her husband, three sons, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Emmy was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Daisy Broaddus and her husband Henry Moak Rollins. She is survived by her three sons Joe Rollins and wife Kim of Round Rock, TX; Bob Rollins of Frisco, TX; Rick Rollins and wife Elaine of Auckland, New Zealand; grandchildren Chris Rollins and wife Ceseley of Dripping Springs, TX; Karen Rollins Hull and husband Chris of Keller, TX; Andrew Rollins and Kate Rollins of Round Rock, TX; Corey Rollins and Kelly Rollins of Frisco, TX; Hilary Rollins of Davis, CA; Helena Rollins of Auckland, New Zealand; great grandchildren William Paar of Dripping Springs, TX; Garrett, Avery and Lillian Hull of Keller, TX.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, January 22 at 10 am at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas followed by a memorial service at 11 am at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin.
