Karl Martin was born out of wedlock 26 July 1890 to school teacher Kristina Berggren and the farmer's son Karl Gustaf Hedmark in Granby. Kristina, who had taught school in Granby gave birth back home with her parents in Essunga.[1] Karl Martin Hedmark was fostered with his grandparents.[2]
Karl Martin's father, Karl Gustaf Hedmark had been a student[3] and had the title inspector. He married another woman in 1899.[4]
Karl Martin grew up with the surname Hedmark, but then took the name of his mother, Berggren.[5] He studied at Chalmers in Göteborg.[6]
The engineer Karl Martin Berggren lived in Blia, Munkfors, Värmland with his wife Edla Maria Svensson and three children. He was married since 24 September 1920.[7][8]
Karl Martin Berggren died 29 March 1959 and was survived by his wife.[9]
