- He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.
- He was educated in 1924 at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.
- He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1942, when he became a POW.
- He gained the rank of Major in the The Queen's Bays.
- He held the office of High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1953.
- He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Northumberland in 1953.
- He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Blackett, of Newcastle, co. Northumberland [E., 1673] on 13 November 1960.
