Death Notice

DEATH OF SIR GEORGE BISSHOPP, BART. Died Saturday last at Cheltenham, after a long and painful illness, which he bore with the fortitude and resignation of a Christian, the Very Rev. Sir George Bisshopp, Bart, Dean of Lismore. He was the only son of Edward Bisshopp Esq. (third son Sir Cecil Bisshopp, Bart of Parham) by Jane, only daughter of William Atkinson, Esq. of Pall Mall. His father having died during his infancy, the charge of his education devolved upon his mother's second husband the late Rev Lucius Coghlan, D.D. who as a guardian watched over the interests of his beloved ward with a tenderness and fidelity beyond all praise, and who was amply repaid for his more than parental anxiety by the devoted attachment of his adopted son. Sir George, who was an elegant scholar and highly accomplished man, distinguisghed throughout life for every quality that can adorn the character of a Christian Gentleman, succeeded his cousin Cecil, Lord De la Zouche in the Baronetcy in the year 1828. By Lady Bisshopp who died in 1832, he has left five children, the eldest of whom, Cecil Augustus succeeds his father in the title. To add to the sorrows of his family at the present moment, his fond and heavily afflicted mother, Mrs Coghlan, one of the most amiable and exemplary of women, lies so dangerously ill that but very faint hopes indeed are entertained of her recovery.
