MRS. MARY REIFF
Mrs. Mary Reiff of Market street, died on Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock, of blood poison, aged nearly 71 years. About eight weeks prior to her death what was supposed to be an abcess appeared on the small toe of the right foot, and in a very short time gangrene developed which poisoned her entire system and caused her death at the time above stated. While her death is sadly mourned by her children and friends it was in reality a blessing in disguise, as it was a release from the most intense pain from which she suffered for several weeks.
Deceased was the third wife of the late Jacob Reiff of this place, whom she married about 37 years ago, and who preceded her in death 26 years ago. Of the first wife there was only one child, which died in infancy. Of the second wife there are four children, viz : ex-Sheriff J. S. Reiff of this place ; Amanda, Mrs. Lewis E. Krause of Tamaqua ; Lucy, Mrs. A. L. Snyder of Harrisburg ; Catharine, Mrs. J. C. Riegle of Harrisburg. The children of the deceased are William Frank of Boston ; Agnes, Mrs. Ed. L. Grimm of Tamaqua, and Carrie M. at home. She is also survived by one brother, Jonathan Umholtz of Williamstown, and four sisters, Mrs. R. Busse and Mrs. Percival Erdman of this place, Mrs. G. Shadle of Williamstown, and Mrs. Clinton Hoffman of Gratz. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, the services to be conducted at her late home by the Rev. L. M. Fetterolf of the Reformed church, after which interment will be made on the family plot in Odd Fellows' cemetery.
