Danville, Iowa Jan 28 David Mathews, son of Herman and Ann Lester Mathews, was born in Erie, Mich., June 25, 1833 and died January 26, 1919, aged 85 years, 7 months and 1 day. He came to Iowa with his parents when 4 years of age and settled first in Lee County, later moving to Des Moines County, settling northwest of Danville, where he lived till he was married to Emily Booth, on March 19,1863. He settled on the old Booth farm, one and one-half miles north of Danville, where their sons, Wallace E., Alfred E., Perlee L., Ray W. and Joseph D. were born and grew to manhood, and where he continued to reside until the death of his wife on September 6, 1905. Since then Mr. Mathews has made his home with his sons, Wallace and Ray, passing away suddenly at the home of the latter at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning. He is survived by two sons, Wallace and Ray, and seven grandchildren. His wife and three sons Alfred, Joseph and Perlee preceded him to the better world. He is also survived by one brother, Edward, of Lincoln, Nev., and one sister, Mary Robertson of New London, these two being the only survivors of a family of eleven children. [1]
