Biography

American Actress

Joyce Compton has over 200 films to her credit, mostly playing the "dumb blonde" role. She had to use her own gowns, furs and jewels in many of the low budget movies she appeared in.

She was a good friend of Clara Bow.

The Western Association of Motion Picture Advertisers (WAMPAS) honored young actresses each year whom they believed to be on the threshold of movie stardom. It was called the "Baby Stars" award. In 1926, Joyce was one of those chosen, along with: Mary Astor, Mary Brian, Dolores Costello, Joan Crawford, Marceline Day, Dolores del Río, Janet Gaynor, Sally Long, Edna Marion, Sally O'Neil, Vera Reynolds, Fay Wray.

Joyce was the only child of Henry Compton & Golden Beck. She married William Francis Kaliher in 1955. The marriage did not last long.

She retired from films in 1961 and worked from time to time as a private nurse, preferring to spend her spare hours painting and designing clothes.
