Biography

Rachel was born in 1764. She was the daughter of Bryce Russell and Rachel Thompson. After her husband Joseph Birdwell died in 1801, Rachel Birdwell married on 18 July 1803 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Lewis Hill. She passed away in 1824.

After her husband Joseph Birdwell died in 1801, Rachel Birdwell married on 18 July 1803 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Lewis Hill. Her daughter Rachel married Anderson Hill on 15 May 1817 in Knoxville.

From her son Rev. Russell Birdwell, Methodist preacher, "My Mother was taken prisoner in the year 1778 by Logan, the Cherokee Chief and marched barefooted from Cargiland on the Holston River to Niagra Falls". This is believed to be when her two brothers were killed and her Mother scalped. She and a sister were kidnapped and found a couple of years later by trappers and rescued.
