Biography

Joseph was born in 1780. He passed away before 1835.

Joseph was born in 1762 into a Quaker family with his father being John Clark and his mother Jane Bryant.^[1] He was from a farming family and lived all his life in or close to the town of Street in Somerset. He married Frances (Fanny) Sturge in 1794^[2] and they had 3 sons: Joseph, Cyrus and James.

Joseph Jr took over looking after the family farm while Cyrus and James went on to establish what would become one of the world’s most famous shoe companies: Clarks.^[3]

Joseph Sr passed away in Street in 1831.

Find A Grave: Memorial #221632872 The Quaker burial records show that Joseph was interred at the Quaker Burial Ground in Street on the 13 February 1831.^[4]
