Biography

William de Moulins,[1] or des Molines,[2] (fl. 1066), presumably came in with the Conqueror.[1] Lodge (1754), asserts that William's name stands, "18th in order on the Roll of Battle Abbey,"[3][4] but he's not a proven companion of the Conqueror.[5]

William starts the Molyneux pedigree in 'Visitations," (1664), as the first Lord of Sefton,[6] which was his primary seat.[1] In addition to Sefton or Sephton manor, Roger de Poictiers also granted him the manors of Thornton, and Keurdon,[1]

Notes

  • He's not in "Molyneux of Sefton," in Vis. of Lancs., 1567., which starts w/ William (c. 1200), father of Richard of Sefton & Robert (ancestor of Melling).[7]
  • He's not in the pedigree printed in Farrer & Brownbill (1907), which begins with Robert Molyneux (occ. c. 1125), [prob. Molyneux-752].[8]
