Biography

Thomas was born 12 Jan 1757, the son of David Papillon and Bridget Turner. ^{[1] [2]}

Educated Queens Cambridge Michs. Pens. 1775 pens. Fell.-Com. 1777. ^[1]

Lieut.-Col., East Kent Militia.^[1]

On the 2nd June, 1791 Thomas Papillon married Anne Pelham daughter of Henry Pelham Esq of Crowhurst Sussex ^[1]

He was buried in Acrise, Kent on 24 April 1838, death registered in Elham.^[3][4]

He built a new vault In Acrise, in which were buried several of his children, himself, and his wife, Ann [Pelham] ; and finally in 1856, his daughter Frances, aged sixty; her remains occupying the last niche. And in less than five years afterwards the property passed away from the family ^[5]

This monument is erected to the memory of THOMAS PAPILLON of Acrise Place, Esquire and of ANNE [Pelham] his wife whose mortal remains are deposited in the vault beneath.
He was the eldest son of DAVID PAPILLON and BRIDGET his wife, daughter of WILLIAM TURNER Esquire of Canterbury.
[Thomas was] Born January 12th 1757 Died April 17th 1828.
ANNE [Pelham] was the second daughter of HENRY CRESSETT PELHAM of Crowhurst in the County of Sussex, Esquire, and JANE his wife, daughter of NICHOLAS HARDINGE of Kingston Upon Thames, Esquire.
Born February 22nd 1772. Died April 9th 1839.
