The Newspaper published obituary had this to say about George, who was a Constable in the Police Force:

The death of Constable George Douglas, for 28 years a member of the police force, took place at the Auckland Hospital on Wednesday. He was born at Mercer in 1871, and was educated there. After leaving school he remained on his father's farm at Churchill, across the Waikato River from Mercer, for a number of years, joining the police in December, 1991. Constable Douglas was stationed at Auckland, Hikurangi, Kawakawa, in the Nelson district, at Avondale, Grey Lynn, and, at the time of his death, at Mercer, where he had been for the past four years. He was a married man with a grown-up family. ^[1]

The Franklin Times published an account of the funeral on 30 August which said:

The funeral of the late Constable G. N. Douglas, of Mercer, took place at the Pokeno cemetery this afternoon, the cortege leaving Pukekohe at two o’clock. The police force, which was represented by two inspectors, some thirty sergeants and constables in uniform, in addition to plain-clothes constables and members of the detective force marched down King Street. ^[2]
