Biography

from findagrave.com: ROBERTA LEE CROSS Roberta Lee (Bobbie Peterson) Cross, age 76, of Bellingham passed away quietly at Highland Convalescent Center on Monday, October 9, 2006, after a lengthy illness.
She was born February 10, 1930, to Victor and Blanche Schell in Port Angeles.
Bobbie graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1948 and married Douglas Peterson in September of that year.
They moved to Burlington in 1958 and raised their family there, owning the Big Lake Grocery in Mount Vernon from 1969 until 1974.
After Douglas" death in 1975, Bobbie took up travel and visited family in several foreign countries in the ensuing years.
In 1980, she met and married George Cross, a Bellingham native and Alaskan fisherman. They shared 24 years together, until his passing in 2004.
Bobbie is survived by her children, Brian Peterson and wife, Sandi, of Bellingham; Teresa Hatter and husband, Michael, of Alger; David Peterson and wife, Nancy, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; as well as a special daughter, Kay Wiley, of Orlando, Florida, and a special son, Paul Southland and wife, Victoria, of Wrangell, Alaska.
She also enjoyed 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bobbie was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW Auxiliary Post 1585, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women.
She excelled at knitting, crocheting and handicrafts, which she selflessly donated to church bazaars, and even developed a secret passion for Northwestern and Alaskan native woodcarving.
She was, at times, a Den Mother, Bluebird and Camp Fire leader. But most often, she was head cheerleader for the dreams and aspirations of her "young folk."
Whether she was keeping an eye out for the children around her in the berry fields of Skagit Valley, inviting young sailors on liberty from NAS Whidbey Island in for a homecooked meal, or organizing the yearly Easter egg hunts for her extended family, she acted with a servant's heart.
Now she rests in the arms of our Lord.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Garden Street United Methodist Church in Bellingham, Washington.
Memorials may be made in her name to the United Methodist Missions Fund.
Arrangements under the care of Jerns Funeral Chapel and On-Site Crematorium, Sunset and James, Bellingham. Peninsula Daily News (Port Angeles, WA) - Friday, October 13, 2006
