Research Notes
On many Ancestry trees, and here in WikiTree until recently, Joseph was identified as the husband of Susan Blair.
But there is no evidence to support this conclusion, and it is almost certainly incorrect. According to sources, Susan's husband was Joel Joseph Findley, born in Virginia (not Pennsylvania), married Susan in 1816, and died in McNairy County, Tennessee (as per his Find-a-Grave).
From the Find-a-Grave profile for Joel Findley:
"Joel Findley (d.1842 McNairy Co,Tenn) is my great grandfather. Some census and Lincoln Co,Tenn records show his name as Joseph Finley. When I started researching his ancestry in the 1990's, I incorrectly assumed Joseph Lewis Finley b.1753 was his father, mainly due to the family names (I also thought Joel was from Joe for Joseph +L for Lewis). I have found no proof of this since that time. Joseph Lewis b.1753 did have a son named Joseph Lewis but I have found no further info on him. My Ancestry DNA matches connect me to Sarah Findley, daughter of the John Findley in Lincoln Co,Tenn and then McNairy Co,Tenn and to James Finley b.1746 Va d.1830 Whitley Co,Ky.
I believe from my DNA matches that it is more likely that Joel's father was John Finley b.1770 Va d.1838 Nashville,Tenn and that the other John Findley in Lincoln Co,Tenn and McNairy Co,Tenn was Joel's brother."[2]
