Biography

Catherine was born before 1852, based on the 1861 census in Canada West and her marriage record to Edward Mullins. Her gravestone gives her birth date as Dec. 7th 1852, but she was 22 when she was married in 1870, consistent with being 12 years old in the 1861 Census of Canada West. The 1901 Census of Canada in Toronto gives a birth date of 9 December 1850. ^{[1] [2]}

She was the daughter of Edward Prendergast and Ellen Phelan, confirmed by the marriage record from 25 October 1870 at Kinkora, Perth County, Ontario, Canada. Her husband, Edward Mullins, was the son of Timothy Mullins and Johanna Murphy. ^[3]

In 1901, Catherine and most of her children were living in Toronto, Ontario. This was after the death of her husband Edward Mullins. The birth dates in this census do not completely agree with the birth records, but most are close, and birth order is correct. Some of the dates given may be from baptismal records, which would be after the birth date. ^[4]
