Biography

Riggs was the eldest son of Caleb Falkiner and his first wife Ruth Riggs.[1][2]

He was a merchant and banker who represented Clonakilty in the Irish Parliament from 1768 to 1776, and Castlemartyr from 1776 to 1783. He was created a Baronet in 1778 in the Baronetage of Ireland.[3]

Riggs married firstly Mary Barker in January 1737/8,[2] they had:[1]

  • Caleb, eldest son,[4] who married Lydia Browne in March 1785[5][6]
  • Samuel
  • Ruth
  • Elizabeth
  • Mary
  • Samia.

His wife Mary died in 1762.

He married secondly Ann Maturin on 11th October 1764 in Cork,[7][8] they had a daughter Sarah. Ann died in January 1796.[9]

Riggs died in 1797, Leigh Rayment's now defunct site gives a date of 24th April.[3]

His will names:[10][11]

  • daughters Ruth Chute and Elizabeth Wood
  • brother in law Peter Maturin
  • son Samuel
  • granddaughters Ann and Eliza Mullins (their mother was Sarah).

He was succeeded by his son Samuel.[12]
