Biography

Riggs was the eldest son of Caleb Falkiner and his first wife Ruth Riggs.^[1][2]

He was a merchant and banker who represented Clonakilty in the Irish Parliament from 1768 to 1776, and Castlemartyr from 1776 to 1783. He was created a Baronet in 1778 in the Baronetage of Ireland.^[3]

Riggs married firstly Mary Barker in January 1737/8,^[2] they had:^[1]

• Caleb, eldest son,^[4] who married Lydia Browne in March 1785^[5][6]
• Samuel
• Ruth
• Elizabeth
• Mary
• Samia.

His wife Mary died in 1762.

He married secondly Ann Maturin on 11th October 1764 in Cork,^[7][8] they had a daughter Sarah. Ann died in January 1796.^[9]

Riggs died in 1797, Leigh Rayment's now defunct site gives a date of 24th April.^[3]

• granddaughters Ann and Eliza Mullins (their mother was Sarah).

He was succeeded by his son Samuel.^[12]
