Biography

Sarah was born about 1651.

Sarah Patefield married John Strapen at Charlestown on June 7, 1669 (7-4-1669).[1] They had:

  1. John, d. October 15, 1671[2]

John Strapen, a "saylor", died at Charlestown October 3, 1671,[2] and two months later on December 7, 1671, Sarah Strapen filed intent to marry Matthew Soly.[3]

  1. John, b. March 20, 1677 (20-1-1677; new style?)[4]
  2. Matthew, b. December 11, 1679[5]
  3. Benjamin, b. March 29, 1682 (29-1-1682),[6] and d. December 27, 1688[7] at Charlestown
  4. Sarah b. June 22, 1684 (22-4-84)[8]

Sarah was mentioned in the December 29, 1737 will of her grandson John Waters as "Sarah Soley", and that she was of Charlestown.[9]

Sarah died September 26, 1744, aged 93 years and 4 months, and is buried in the Ancient Cemetery at New London, Connecticut. The inscription on her gravestone reads:[10]
