Biography

Birth

No record has been found of the birth of Mary E. Stimans (or Stimons or Stemans). Her gravestone shows her birth date as 1848.^[1] The 1900 Census says she was born in Maine in December 1848.^[2] Her son Eugene's death record gives his mother's birthplace as Eustes, Maine.^[3] She may be the Mary Stimans, age 1, living in 1850 in the household of Benjamin Stimans, 70, along with Benjamin Stimans, 28, and Mary E. Stimans, 25, (probably her parents) at Jackson Plantation in Franklin County, Maine,^[4] but no evidence has been found to confirm the connection. Marriage

Mary E. Stimans married Albert Allen. Their fiirst known child was born in 1867.^[5]

Children

Mary (Stimans) Allen was the mother of five children, four of whom are known (born between 1867 and 1877) and were living in 1900. They are listed in the "Children" section of her husband's profile.

Death

The gravestone of Mary E. Allen at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Livermore Falls, Maine, is inscribed with the dates 1848-1919.^[1]

Research Note

The maiden name of the wife of Albert Allen appears in the records in at least three spellings. The death record of her son Eugene gives his mother's name as Mary Stimans.^[3] The death record of her son William gives it as Mary Stimons.^[6] The 1928 history of Livermore, Maine, renders it as Mary Stemans.^[5] On the possibility that she was the Mary Stimans in the 1850 Census record,^[4] Stimans has been selected as her WikiTree Last Name At Birth (LNAB).
