Robert was christened on 14 January 1622/23 in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England. [1] His parents were Sir Robert Jocelyn and Bridget Smith.
Sir Robert and his family appear in the Visitation of Hertfordshire of 1634 [2]:
Robert, the third but eldest surviving son of Sir Robert Jocelyn, inherited Hyde Hall at his father's death in 1664, and was created a baronet in 1665. He was Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 1677–8. (fn. 219) In 1685 he settled Hyde Hall on his son Strange Jocelyn (by his wife Jane Strange), on the occasion of his marriage with Mary daughter of Tristram Conyers of Copped Hall in Epping. He died and was buried at Sawbridgeworth in 1712, when Sir Strange Jocelyn succeeded.
