When Katie Nell Baty was born on February 15, 1919, in DeKalb, Tennessee, her father, Anderson B Baty, was 54, and her mother, Effie Evergreen Sandlin, was 28. Katy married Frank Bratten, the boy nextdoor. They had a daughter, Nellie. Katie later married J. B. Owen on 8 Jan 1967, in Old Hickory, Davidson, Tennessee. Katie died on May 20, 2008, in Coffee, Tennessee, at the age of 89, and was buried in Nashville, Tennessee.
Katie Nell Baty Batten Owen passed away on May 20, 2008. She had served her community by taking care of the sick and homeless, and also of families with newborn babies. She worked at DuPont Plant for 13 years, then went on to work at Baptist and Donelson Hospitals, retiring from Donelson Hospital in 1981. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Old Hickory. She was preceded into Heaven by her parents, Boss Anderson Baty and Effie Sandlin Baty of Dekalb County; and by her husband of 27 years, Mr. J. B. Owen of Old Hickory, TN; brothers, Dink and Dillard Baty; sister-in-law, Margie Baty of Lebanon, TN; son-in-law, Jim Chaffin of Tullahoma, TN; step son-in-law, Cleo McClellan of Kentucky and Jack Estes of Hermitage, TN. She is survived by one daughter, Nellie, three step-daughters, step son-in-law, one sister and brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
