Biography

Evelyn Wilson Ffrench was born at Ballarat 1879, mother Marion WILSON, father Acheson Evelyn[1].
Evelyn Ffrench is an Anzac who served in the Boer War.

Lieutenant Evelyn Alexander Wilson Ffrench, overseer at St Kilda, joined the 4th Victorian Imperial Bushmen/Australian Imperial Regiment (A.I.R.) and sailed from Port Melbourne on the "Victorian" on 1 May 1900 for South Africa.[2][3]


--Extract from the Critic (Adelaide) 12 October 1901[4]--

Mrs. Acheson Evelyn Ffrench, sisterin-law of Mrs. Robert Power, has just heard that her only son, Lieutenant Evelyn Ffrench, now serving in South Africa, has received a commission in the Royal Artillery.

--Extract from the Australian Town and Country Journal (Sydney) 11th March 1903[5]--

Miss Blanche Watson, daughter of Mr. George Watson, "Fenagh," Burnett-st, St. Kilda, is engaged to Captain Evelyn Ffrench, of the Royal Artillery, who has Just returned to Melbourne, after three years absence in South Africa and England.

Among the Australians who volunteered to rejoin their old regiments at the outbreak of the war was Evelyn Ffrench, formerly of West Bland Plains, N.S.W. He served with the Royal Artillery in South Africa, where he was recom mended for' conspicuous gallantry after being badly wounded. He has again been reported tor gallantry and good work in Flanders, and is now in England recovering from numerous wounds, and is staying at Arundel Castle, where he and his wife are the guests of the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk. Mrs. Ffrench will be remem-bered in Melbourne as Miss Blanche Watson, daughter of the late Mr. George Watson, the veteran starter of the V.R.C., and Master of the Melbourne Hounds

--Extract from the Daily News (Perth) 28th March 1919[7]--

Captain Evelyn Ffrench, only son of the late Mr. Acheron Evelyn Ffrench, of Oakhurst, New South Wales, and of Mrs. Ffrench, 30 Lexham Gardens, London, was killed on December 23 while flying near Hounslow.

Cremated at Golders Green Crematorium London, England[8].
