Unsourced profile, no sources found for a marriage of Agnes Arden and John Middleton on ancestry or Find my Past. John was the son of John and Isabella Middleton of Stockeld, Yorkshire,^[1] and according to the family pedigree in Dugdale's Visitation of Yorkshire, he died without issue.^[2]

Could not trace any reference in Visitations of Essex shown as source. Neither Foster nor Dugdale show a wife, and Agnes may have originated in a footnote in "Shakespeare's family; being a record of the ancestors and descendants of William Shakespeare, with some account of the Ardens" which states "An Agnes Arden married John Middleton, son of Sir John Middleton, of Stockeld Park, co. Yorkshire (" Visitation of Essex," 1588). She afterwards became the second wife of Sir Thomas More, and her arms may be seen on the Chelsea tomb ".^[3] However, that John Middleton died in 1509, 50 years before this Agnes was born.^[4] Also, Sir Thomas More's second wife was Alice Middleton not Agnes.
