Jesse Billings was born at Chesterfield, Maine (then in Massachusetts) on 15 Jun 1805, the son of Elkanah Billings and Catharine (Morse) Billings.[1]
Marriages
Jesse Billings married Harriet Walton at Fayette, Maine, on 1 May 1833.[2]
The widower Jesse Billings married widow Elizabeth Fuller (Childs) Delano. Mr. Jesse Billings and Mrs. Elizabeth Delano, both of Livermore, Maine, published at Livermore their intention to marry on 7 Mar 1859.[3] No record has been found of the marriage. They were shown living together at Livermore in the 1860 Census.[4]
Residences
After their marriage, Jesse and Harriet Billings lived at Fayette, Maine. They have not been found in the 1840 Census, but the birth record of their first child, Oscar, in February 1834 took place at Fayette,[5] and they were still living there in 1850.[6] They then apparently moved to Livermore, Maine, where the Lakeside Cemetery has gravestones of Oscar, who died in 1838,[7] their son Charles, who died in 1839,[8] and Harriet, who died in 1857.[9] Jesse was called a resident of Livermore in 1859 in the intention of marriage with his second wife,[3] with whom he was living at Livermore in 1860 and 1870,[4][10] and after her death, in 1880 he was living at Livermore with his unmarried daughter Abby Billings.[11]
Children
Jesse Billings was the father of eight children, the first seven with Harriet (Walton) Billings and the last one with Elizabeth (Childs) (Delano) Billings. Their ages are as shown in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Censuses;[6][4][10] the first Oscar is known from his birth and death record;[5] and the first Charles is known from his gravestone at the Lakeside Cemetery in Livermore, Maine.[8] See the children's profiles for additional details on their births and deaths.
Jesse Billings of Livermore, Maine, made his will on 13 Aug 1887. He names his sons Thaddeus C. Billings, Oscar L. Billings, and Walton Billings; and his daughters, Hattie H. Hopkins wife of Herbert Hopkins and Abby A. Billings. The three sons and Hattie each received a bequest of $100, and Abby received the rest of his estate.[12]
Death
Jesse Billings died from spinal paralysis at Livermore, Maine, on 7 Feb 1892, with his age at his death recorded as 86 years, 7 months, 23 days, his birthplace shown as Chesterville, and his parents as Elkanah Billings and Catherine Morse.[13] His gravestone at the Lakeside Cemetery in Livermore says he died on 7 Feb 1892 at the age of 86 years, 7 months, 22 days.[14]
