He was the son of Edward Austen and Elizabeth Bridges. He was baptised on 16 October 1798 in Godmersham, Kent.
In 1812 his father took the last name Knight by the terms of the Will of Catherine Knight, and thereafter his last name became Knight.
Marriages and family
He married Caroline Portal on 18 Oct 1825 at South Bersted, Sussex. She died in 1837.
William's marriage to Mary Northey was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1840 in the St Pancras district, Middlesex.[1]
He was the father of Arthur Charles Knight who emigrated to New Zealand.
